Draw Something Developer Dislikes Zynga

OMGPOP's $200 million acquisition by Zynga is one of the biggest news for the social gaming studio, the general sentiment has been one of excitement and celebrations, however, there's one former employee of OMGPOP who felt less than thrilled about the entire proceedings.

Shay Pierce is a former employee of OMGPOP and he has expressed several reasons for why he is not interested in joining Zynga to continue his work on Draw Something. The first reason was that he was selling a puzzle game on the iOS App Store called Connectrode, the app is dedicated to his wife, and he is unsure whether there would be a conflict of interest if he continued selling it after joining Zynga, which also sells many puzzle games on the iOS App Store. He never got a clear answer from Zynga about the issue.

The second reason would be that Pierce did not like Zynga as a company, he also did not like the way they operated in the world of gaming. He feels that Zynga is short-sighted oganisation that behaves in a way that's destructive to the gaming world and to the other organisations in it. Pierce does not think that Zynga's practices are sustainable - that the company does not create 'valuable' goods and services, nor do they treat the employees well.

Pierce's statement comes at a time when Zynga is under closer scrutiny than ever - in 2011, when the company went public, Zynga revealed its finances to the world, they also had to focus a lot more on long term oriented plans.

Draw Something Tips and Hints

If you wish to play Draw Something like an expert artisit, here are 10 pointers that will make your art look much nicer!

1) Find a Stable Place

To make your best art, you'd want your device placed on a surface that's not constantly moving - like a table or on your lap  - this will allow you to draw much better pictures - imagine having to draw on a piece of paper that's held in your hands, it just doesn't work! My favourite way of drawing, if there are no tables around or places that I can sit, would be to have my tablet device rested on my forearms and close to my body - sort of like how a teacher hands out papers.

2) Buy Colors, not Bombs

You should not spend your hard earned coins on bombs, they do little to help you improve your game. What you should consider instead would be a big palette of colors, having more than the 4 default colors makes it easier for you to depict your illustrations. If you downloaded the paid version of Draw Somthing, the game gives you enough coins to buy one new set of colors.

3) Plan Ahead

If you took a little time to visualise how you want to draw the word before you start making your strokes, you'd be able to draw it much more quickly. Not having an idea of how to draw the word after you've made your selection will result in a lot of erasing and trashing of drawings. So before you select the word, spend a few seconds to think about how you'll be able to tackle the word and depict it through your drawing.

4) Draw the Most Distinctive Features

Often a times, people will recognize an item by a number of it's distinctive features - for example, a turtle by its shell, Lil Wayne by his baseball cap, dreadlocks and body tattoo - this is great news for players who might not be artistically inclined, focus on the several key features of your subject and do your best, through simple shapes and colors, to put them across to your friend who's doing the guessing.

5) Have Fun

This might be the most important tip of all, and it would be to have a good time with the app. Some of the best fun had with the app are times when I wasn't taking everything so seriously and just goofing off with my friends on Draw Something. Remember that this is a social game that's meant to entertain, it's not a competitive game about raking up the highest scores and the most experience, if you played Draw Something in that way, you've lost the spirit of the game!

Draw Something is Slowing Down in Growth!

For the month of February and March, Draw Something was one of the most popular and fastest growing app online and on the smartphones - 1,200,000 downloads 10 days after launch, to over 35,000,000 after 6 weeks - it has seen a phenomenal rate of player acquisition.

However, according to Appdate.com, this trend seems to be short lived as Draw Something's growth has hit a plateau, and they're no longer getting any significant number of new players.

This might be a considerable cause for concern for social games giant, Zynga, which recently bought OMGPOP (developer of Draw Something) for $200 million.

Despite this news, I'm still optimistic about Draw Something's growth, OMGPOP will still be able to leverage on Zynga's huge network of social gamers (232 million monthly active users, 60 million daily active users) to find new players, OMGPOP also has plans for many new features for their game. There are also reports that Draw Something will be translated into different 20 languages, surely this will help the app reach into an entirely new base of audiences.

Welcome To Our Draw Something Fan Website!

Draw Something is one of the most addicting games ever released. The application is number 1 on iPhone, Android and Facebook, it is truly a game that is fun, easy to play, and difficult to put down. In Draw Something, you start by picking from 3 words to draw, you then use basic colours, and a number of paint brushes to illustrate your chosen word. After you are done, your friend has to guess what you're trying to draw, he/she can even watch the actual process of drawing, it's magical - there is nothing more engaging than that!

When you guess the words correctly, you will be rewarded with gold coins. You can use this gold coins to purchase more paint colors - this will help you draw better pictures - for example, you'll be glad to have purple for the word 'grapes', otherwise your friends could easily mistake it for cherries.

When you've purchased more colors, why not try more challenging words - there are literally thousands of words to draw - and the game's creator, OMGPOP, are adding new ones with every update.

Whether you're playing Draw Something with your friends or a total stranger, there's lots of fun to be had! Expect really good drawings from master artists, to stickman from people who are lousy with their hands - sometimes the ugly drawings are really great to laugh at! In the event that you're not able to guess the drawing, you can simply use a bomb, this will get rid of some letters - narrowing down the options for you, and helping you guess the right word.

The reviews of Draw Something have been really positive, many people are spending way too much time playing the game, that includes us, we've spend more time drawing on the app then we ever did in art class, haha!
