A recent statistic indicated that in the month of April, nearly 5M daily active users (DAUs) lost interest in the game and dropped it - this brought the total number of players from 15M down to 10M, this drop in players is alarming to say the least!
Advertising plan for Draw Something is already implemented, companies who buy advertising from Draw Something will have their brand name featured in the game, and brands like 'Doritos', 'Pepsi' and 'The Avengers' have already invested some advertising money into the game. This move is a consequence of the small number of digital items that can be sold in the game, unlike, Farmville, Mafia Wars, Draw Something can only make you buy colors and bombs, which is not much of a video game inventory to be honest.
What Zynga did wrong would be the fact that they didn't consider whether Draw Something had staying power, whether it had the potential to spawn many different spin offs and extend its brand beyond the game into a lifestyle brand like Angry Birds. The game quicly got repititive and confusing, and it took too much effort to play and soon it was no longer fun to play the game.
But there are several people that profitted handsomely from this, they would be the people who sold the compnay at the best moment when it was at it's peak, just before it's downward spiral and decline.
